We have an election too

Hey, we've got an election too. Don't hog all the limelight. We have had a labour (left leaning) government for 9 years and national (right leaning) (yes they hold each other up!) is well ahead in the polls. We have an MMP (?) system which means if a party doesn't get enough votes to govern alone they have to get into bed with a minor party. No, no sex and usually the large one is so heavy the small one keeps rolling into the centre. The green partys' leader comes from our area and I voted for them but they were shafted in negotiations after the last election. I was not happy. But I don't vote for me. I live my life no matter what government is in. I vote for Joe (Joel) Bloggs who earns $650 ($US400) a week, pays half of that in rent and is trying to feed 6 kids.
I would vote for me if my government was going to war. I'm a pacifist and a coward.

I am surprised to read that politics in your country is also more or less same like India. Only difference is people there are more aware because of better education. Politicians in Australia or New Zealand ( I am not sure where you stay exactly) are more answerable to their people.

I am baffled….Why do you consider yourself coward?

Shubhajit - I'm a coward because I'm too 'nice'

Nice people are not cowards. They are sturdy and strong. You purity, innocence, and modesty should not be associated with any kind of weakness. I believe cowards are those who blindly follow others and don’t know what they want from life. Whatever little I read about you from your write ups, if I assume these all are true from your heart, you are an incredibly strong men, who enjoy life in his own way.

Shubhajit - you are too kind, don't believe everything you read! By being too nice I mean that because I don't want to hurt people I defer or don't make hard decisions that will affect them even though I know it is right. Sometimes you have to be selfish because in the end it is your life and if you make yourself happy those around you will be happier.

thank you for this post. I know we americans certainly get the news front with our elections. Every morning I turn on the radio to NPR briefly for a taste of what's happening and right now we hear little except for the election stuff and the economy collapse or not collapse. I admit to being very ignorant about politics in general and elections in other countries. Certainly I've never hear New Zealand's politics discussed on the radio. I like the wake up call the post sends me.
